Mission and Philosophy
Hope Lutheran Preschool offers young children a Christian setting in which to grow, to learn and to develop physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially.

Under the care of teachers who are guided by their Christian faith, the children will expand their perception of themselves, God, other people and the physical world in which God has placed us.

Objectives

  • To encourage the development of the whole child; to help him or her feel secure in the love of God
  • To teach simple Christian truths related to the child's experiences and level of development
  • To encourage the child in self-confidence and concern for others. To encourage cooperation in work and play and to foster a spirit of sharing
  • To encourage the child's innate sense of curiosity; to develop his or her intellect through the use of hands-on experiences
  • To encourage fine and gross motor skills through the use of age-appropriate play equipment
  • To increase the child's skills in listening, self-discipline, conversation and creative self-expression
  • To operate as an extension in the area of education and as a missionary outreach of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church of San Mateo

The Preschool Program
The teachers prepare an engaging learning environment for exploring a theme, such as underwater, solar system or community helpers. Creatively using a thematic approach, the teachers incorporate related curriculum into the student's daily, weekly and monthly activities. The staff continuously monitors the activities, so that they may facilitate the children's learning and challenge them at an appropriate level.

Included in our classrooms are beginning concepts in the Christian faith. We believe that children benefit from learning about God from an early age. From simple Bible stories children learn about God's creation and experience how God loves and cares for them each and every day.

All children, regardless of faith or church affiliation, are welcome at Hope. Hope Lutheran Preschool admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship programs and athletic and other school-administered programs.
