What’s So Great About Christianity, Chapters 15,16
by Dan Severson
In this week’s discussion, Pastor Dan covers Part V: Christianity and Philosophy of D’Souza’s book. This includes Chapter 15 (The World Beyond our Senses: Kant and the Limits of Reason) and Chapter 16 (In the Belly of the Whale: Why Miracles are Possible). He discusses how science became the normative way of discovering nature during the period called “The Enlightenment” and how that led people to question whether miracles can happen. The philosophies of David Hume are cited, which presumes that every law of nature is provisional for that period of time, and we new laws of nature may be discovered at any time. Pastor Dan also presents the biblical view on miracles; The universe is open to God’s intervention, and this may come in ways we as humans do not understand.
