What’s So Great About Christianity, Chapter 20
by Dan Severson
This week’s discussion is focused on Chapter 20 of D’Souza’s book: “Natural Law and Divine Law: The Objective Foundations of Morality”.
In this chapter D’Souza explores three questions: (1) Is there a universal morality that all people seem to understand? (2) If universal morality exists, does this have a religious foundation? Can it be discovered by people without religion? (3) How can this universal morality be known?
The conclusions D’Souza makes in this chapter was there is a universal morality. This has also been referred to as a “Natural Law” that all humans understand. We see that there are certain moral norms that people of all cultures conform to. This leads to the conclusion that all people are born with a conscience, and that God created us with with moral norms.
This discussion explored a topic that has been in the news lately: the position of the Catholic Church and other Christian Churches on the topic of Homosexual marriage.
