Forgiveness and Miracles – Introduction

Many people in our post enlightenment and modernist world do not believe that miracles are possible. Historical record suggests otherwise. We have numerous documents that testify to the fact that Jesus was able to perform miraculous events. But how are miracles connected to the subject of forgiveness?
Jesus did not perform miracles in a random way. His miracles are meant to send a strong message to those who witness it. The pattern of Jesus’ life, including his miracles, was one of total self-giving love. Jesus is identifying with suffering humanity, and opening the door to fellowship with God through forgiveness. His miracles were an expression of the new covenant God was making with us based on his love and mercy. This is the message of the gospel: the good news of Jesus Christ. This good news is an invitation to everyone who hears it – an invitation to return to God.
In the remaining weeks of this study, we will take a closer look at some of the miracles that Jesus performed.
