What’s So Great About Christianity: Chapters 25,26
by Dan Severson
In Chapter 25, D’Souza discusses how Christianity is unique among the other major world religions. All religions seek to know God or the Divine, but other religions teach a different way to achieve this goal. It is Christianity alone that teaches that we cannot earn life with God, but rather that Christianity, forgiveness, and mercy are gifts from God to us that are given out of the bounty of God’s love.
In Chapter 26, D’Souza asks – Why should someone adopt Christianity? How did a man with a following of a few (approximately 100 people at the time of his death) go on to make such a significant impact on the world? Within a few centuries of Christ’s death, 30 million people called themselves Christians, and Christianity has impacted society in many ways, such as how we record history (BC/AD) and how we observe our time between work and rest. It is impossible to ignore the historical evidence that Christ was a real person. Rather, we should accept that the events recorded in the Bible as fact.
