The Biblical Perspective on Evil – Part 2

Chapter Two: Evil is Still a Four Letter Word

Class Date: January 26, 2022

Evil is not a concept everyone accepts. The notion that there is good and evil, or a purpose and meaning to life implies that something other than random forces are at work shaping human life into what it becomes. The concepts of good and evil are based on religious perspectives – including secular ones masquerading as something other than another religion, such as “scientism”.

The Bible defines evil by telling stories that serve as examples of evil and what God is doing about it. From beginning to end, God is struggling with the presence of evil in human life, and in his “good” creation. In each case, the story ends with a gesture of God’s grace. We will continue with the Old Testament examples of “evil” and God’s grace next week.
