The Mystery of Faith

The Mystery of Faith

The sermon for this Sunday is a reflection on how our faith grows and matures, often without us even knowing it.

Jesus compares the kingdom of God to a farmer who plants his seeds. Over time, they grow until harvest time but he knows not how this happens. The seeds grow into plants without his help, and of their own accord. Similarly, we live our lives with the necessity of having to deal with many unexpected events, challenges, and difficulties. While we may not be entirely aware of this, our faith grows and matures as we live through these often conflicted experiences. The more we find ourselves in situations that require faith and trust in God, the stronger our faith becomes.

We speak of weaknesses as if they are a bad thing. Actually, as Paul said, “When we are weak, then we are strong.” Why? Because when we have to deal with our weaknesses, we rely on the help of God. It is pride that goes before the fall. But when we need God during challenging times, we pray, we worship, and we rely on God’s help. This is how faith grows and faith is not an expression of weakness. It is the strength that leads to persistence, perseverance, and hope.
