Repentance as a Way of Life

Repentance as a Way of Life

The Third Sunday in Lent

Dr. Martin Luther reflected often about “repentance” as he had written in the first of his famous 95 Theses: “When our Lord and Master Jesus Christ said, ‘Repent’ (Matthew 4:17), he willed that the entire life of believers to be one of repentance.” He also said in a Maundy Thursday sermon in 1518, “to probe and ponder how bad you have been is not enough if you do not ponder and probe much more how good you desire to become.”

That is the essential theme of Pastor Kevin’s message this Sunday, “Repentance as a Way of Life” (Luke 13:1-9). Jesus uses the occasion of recalling some recent tragedies, one political and one a natural disaster, to focus a disciple’s heart and mind on the “course corrections” we are called to in our Lenten journey.
