Encounters at the Well
The Third Sunday in Lent
The gospel text for this Third Sunday in Lent is from John 4:5-42. Jesus’s encounter with a Samaritan woman at the well illustrates his mission to break social, racial and gender boundaries. It illustrates Jesus’ radical love and provisions for the true fulfillment (living water). The Samaritan woman’s transformation led her to boldly share her story, becoming a catalyst for her town’s belief and the reminder that God sees our hidden pain and offers healing and purpose, not condemnation.
