Jesus, A Light to the Gentiles
This Sunday we are celebrating Epiphany one day early. This is the season when we celebrate Jesus as the Light of the World, characterized by the Magi traveling from modern day Iraq, following a star which they believed was a sign of a new king being born in Israel. Their search allows Matthew to tell us three things: 1) Jesus was the true King of Israel; 2) Gentiles were to be included in Jesus’ redemptive mission; and 3) Jesus is the One who is worthy of our worship. This becomes our invitation to worship Jesus anew.
