Living in Grace

In our continuing series of sermons from Luke’s Gospel, this Sunday we consider what Jesus says about our receiving grace in such a way that we act as if God is our Master, and we are willing servants because we are his beloved children.

The message is titled: “Living in Grace” (Luke 17:5-10). Pastor Kevin is going to use an entire chapter from C. S. Lewis’ classic fantasy, The Great Divorce, as a literary allusion to Jesus’ teaching. The Great Divorce is about a bus ride from downtown Hell to the outskirts of Heaven. We will hear a pointed conversation between a redeemed murderer, now a citizen of Heaven and a citizen of Hell who used to be his boss in their previous lives. As we insist upon “our rights,” we are reminded that we are “no longer our own, but we have been bought with the price of Jesus’ holy and precious blood.” We are being invited to understand our true identity in Jesus and challenged to be his faithful witnesses in all we say and do.
