Where is Christ in the World?
Today’s sermon is based on the Gospel reading from Matthew 25. Jesus compares himself to a king who moves among his subjects to see how he is treated. What is done for the least of those who belong to his family is truly done for him. “For I was hungry and you gave me food. I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me. I was naked and you gave me clothing. I was sick and you took care of me. I was in prison and you visited me.”
It is hard to serve Christ in this world of contrasts – rich and poor, strong and weak, healthy and sick, haves and have-nots, at war and at peace. This world consists of hunger and thirst, strangers and prisoners, sick and outcast. That is our challenge. For Christ is in the world in which we move. These are the folks we are summoned to love.
