Be Careful What You Ask For

Be Careful What You Ask For

This Sunday’s message is based on the Gospel text from Mark 10, verses 35-45.

Maybe Jesus felt “third time’s a charm,” but he tells his friends a third time that he is going to Jerusalem, suffer torture, be killed and be raised on the third day. Yet once again, it seems the disciples don’t understand the implications of his prediction, and James and John make what seems like a completely inappropriate request of Jesus. Jesus defines greatness as servanthood and suggests that looking out for others’ needs is one main keys to Christian unity and missional effectiveness. Though not about money, maybe this is the real “stewardship sermon.”

Read Mark 10:35-45 in preparation for hearing this message, and pray that we all might be open to what the Spirit is saying to the church.
