Hide it Under a Bushel – NO!
The Third Sunday After Pentecost
The Sunday, Pastor Lauren continues her series of sermons – “Let Me Tell You A STORY” – from Jesus’ parables. The title of the sermon for this Sunday is: “Hide It Under A Bushel? No!”. The Gospel text is from Luke 8:16-18. Only three short verses, but packed with meaning:
Verse 16 (The Lamp): Just as no one lights a lamp just to hide it under a bed, faith is meant to be visible and active.
Verse 17 (Everything Revealed): Because light exposes the darkness, Jesus points out that all secrets will eventually come to light. It means that truth cannot be contained.
Verse 18 (Take Care How You Listen): Jesus warns that people are responsible for what they do with the truth. If you receive the message and put it into practice, you will be given more understanding. If you ignore it, you will eventually lose even the initial understanding you believed you had.
